What does it take to craft the new Audi R8, a revolutionary road car that rockets to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and rivals the likes of Porsche and Lamborghini? We'll head to the state-of-the-art Audi R8 factory in Neckarsulm, Germany, to see how the car's ultralight aluminum frame and high-tech fuel injection system are meticulously hand-built. In total, it takes more than a week and 120 of Audi's most experienced workers to produce one Audi R8.

Neckarsulm, Baden-Württemberg, Germany: Audi R8 chassis assembler, Bruno Dugulin, prepares the chassis for mounting to the body.


A welder constructs the front portion of the Audi R8 space frame in the body shop.


 

Audi assembler Uwe Geiger fits the engine to the body. A hoisting crane is used to position the engine in the body which has been pivoted for this purpose.

 

An Audi assembler secures the braking system to the chassis of the Audi R8.

Audi body shop technicians perform precision tests on the R8 to ensure a perfect fit on all doors and hatches.
